Walnut Halwa
A fully vrat-friendly sweet of walnuts, khoya and saffron milk — no onion, no garlic, no compromise.
Cook along · 11 steps
Method
- 1
Transfer walnuts to a mixer jar. Grind in small batches on pulse mode to a coarse texture (not powder). You can also use a chili cutter.
- 2
Heat 4 tbsp ghee in a pan. Add ground walnuts and fry on low flame for 5-6 minutes, stirring continuously (walnuts burn quickly).
- 3
Add 200g crumbled khoya. Mix well with walnuts and cook for 4-5 minutes until ghee starts oozing out.

- 4
Add 1½ cups pre-heated milk. Mix well.
- 5
Stir continuously until the mixture thickens slightly.
- 6
Add ⅓ cup sugar. Mix and stir continuously for 5 minutes until sugar dissolves.

- 7
Add ½ tsp cardamom powder and the saffron milk (strands + milk). Mix well — saffron greatly enhances the taste.
- 8
Add 3 tbsp finely chopped almonds. Mix.
- 9
Turn off stove. Keep stirring the halwa for 2 more minutes for good texture.

- 10
Garnish with chopped almonds, pistachios, walnuts, and dried rose petals.
- 11
Serve warm. Offer to Thakurji with Tulsi leaves.
