Makhani Chhutti Dal

Method

    Wash 1 cup yellow moong dal thoroughly. Add water and soak for 2-3 hours.

    Drain all water.

    Heat 2 tbsp oil in a pan. Add ½ tsp mustard seeds and ¼ tsp fenugreek seeds. Let them crackle.

    Add ½ tsp turmeric powder. Mix once. Keep flame low.

    Add 1 cup water. Mix well.

    Add the soaked dal. Mix gently.

    Cook for 5 minutes on low flame. Mix once.

    Cook for another 5 minutes (total 10 minutes). Mix again.

    Add 1 tsp red chili powder and salt to taste. Mix.

    Cook for 5 more minutes (total 15 minutes). The dal should be fluffy and not sticky, with no water remaining.

    Serve with potato curry, Gujarati kadhi, magaj laddoo, pickle, and rice.
